Through the Trail (Guest Blog)

Hi! My name is Stone! I am a Tennessee Walking Horse Gelding. My owner's name is Jana, and we like to go on trail rides together. We get to go on trail rides once or twice a week.

The property where I live has three long trails through woods and fields. There are creeks, steep hills, low trees, fallen logs, and many other obstacles that I have to navigate through or around. At first, I wasn't very good at crossing creeks. They scared me because I thought they were deep. Turns out, they weren't really deep at all, just like Jana had tried to tell me!

I have some advice for mastering the trails. Whether you are going up a rocky hill, over a fallen log, over a creek, or under a low tree, remember to go slow. Stop in front of the obstacle and think about the best and safest way to get through it. You need to stay safe, and your rider needs to stay safe. It is especially important to be careful with your rider while going under a low tree! Wait for your owner to urge you on once you have thought of the best way to navigate the obstacle.

The most important job on the trail is to keep your rider safe! They may not worry about it, but if you make one wrong move, it could seriously injure your rider. Thanks for letting me share!
